Bridges have been a part of dentistry throughout history. Missing teeth can be replaced with a “fixed” bridge. A “fixed” bridge is one that is not removable. It stays in your mouth permanently. Bridges replace missing teeth and are supported by the existing teeth surrounding the space. Those teeth are shaped to receive crowns. The crowns are attached to a replacement bridge tooth. The bridge is then cemented to the crowned teeth.
The obvious advantage of this type of bridge over a removable partial is that it’s not removable. It stays in place. It is very cosmetically pleasing and looks natural. The advantage of Dental Implants over traditional bridges is that they stand alone without involving the neighboring teeth.
